Bitrittesi
Bitrittesi (Bee-tree-tess-e) is a family winery based out of Sonoma California. The name was inherited from our ancestors that immigrated from Bitritto, outside Bari, Italy. It is an ode to the men and women of our families past who came to America for a better life. When they arrived here as farmers they did their part to make the best possible products they could to provide for their family. Now three generations later, we hope to make a wine they would be proud of, and that also speaks to the people of Bitritto, or as they are called back in the old country, Bitrittesi.
Family winemaker Tyler Martin is well known in Napa Valley for letting each harvest express itself in a very hands-off way.
VINEYARD NOTES
Our small family owned vineyard is located in the Sonoma Valley AVA just bordering Moon Mountain AVA. The vines are sustainably grown and farmed with minimal intervention. The vineyard is just over 2 acres. The hillside half of the vineyard consists of Old Vine (20+) year old Dijon clone Chardonnay. This portion sees a cool growing season and microclimate, creating complex acid driven wines. The valley floor portion of the vineyard consists of 5 year old Wente clone Chardonnay. This half of the vineyard grows young, vibrant, citrus driven flavors in the finished product.
ÉLEVAGE
The wine ages for 11 month in neutral French oak barrels. Malolactic fermentation occurs in barrel immediately after primary fermentation. Minimal Sulphur is added once malolactic fermentation is complete. The wine never racks and it is topped monthly until bottling, to prevent oxidation during aging. The wine is aged in neutral François Frères Barrels. The barrels range from one to four times used before filling.
